Whilst my formal training was originally in the visual and new media arts (and before that in information technology and engineering), throughout my career I have found my projects to consistently fall outside, or in between, traditional categories of artistic practice. Hence I have sought out and developed creative partnerships with musicians, visual art makers, performers, theatre makers, writers, critical theorists, dancers and scientists in differing combinations, and have experienced how new forms may emerge through these active collaborations. These works have been variously termed ‘new media’, ‘interdisciplinary’, ‘emerging genres’, 'integrated media practices' or ‘hybrid forms’.

Above all I work to foster the 'art of collaboration' through processes to which all members of the team must be closely committed. This requires an openness and generosity from all, something, which is not always easy to achieve. However I have found that this approach is most likely to lead to the team to create actively hybrid outcomes.
